At an event held today in Nepalthok, Ms. Gitanjali Brandon, Counsellor, Embassy of India, Kathmandu and Dr. Bijaya Jaishi, Director General, Department of Roads jointly inaugurated a high-capacity modular bridge that has a 70-metre span.
The modular bridge inaugurated today is one of the ten similar bridges being provided by the Government of India to the Government of Nepal, for aiding the restoration of connectivity following the devastating rains of October 2025. The ten bailey bridges, worth more than NPR 73 crores, along with technical assistance for their installation, are being provided by the Government of India to Government of Nepal on grant basis.
During the event, Counsellor stated that the inauguration of this modular bridge is a reflection of the enduring bonds of friendship that define the India-Nepal relationship, and reaffirmed Government of India’s continued support for Nepal’s infrastructure development and post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
Director General, Department of Roads, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal expressed gratitude for India’s timely assistance. DG noted that the quick-to-assemble nature of these bridges is crucial for fast-tracking emergency reconstruction. He expressed confidence that the newly installed bridge would help restore and enhance the movement of people and goods across Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts of Nepal.
Previously, in the aftermath of floods and landslides of September 2024, the Government of India had supplied 10 pre-fabricated steel bridges, worth NPR 41 crores, to the Government of Nepal at its request.
Government of India remains committed to continue supporting the people and Government of Nepal in reconstruction and disaster mitigation efforts.
