BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation (BPKF) was established in December 1991. BPKF was established by the two governments during Prime Minister GP Koirala's visit. Koirala (younger brother of B.P. Koirala) through a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Nepal and the Government of the Republic of India.

Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, in whose name the foundation is established, is a symbol of Nepali renaissance. His ideas and philosophy made him a unique blend of liberalism, humanism and social justice. He was a warrior against all forms of injustice in various forms and through various agencies state and non-state. He occupies a unique position in politics, literature and the intellectual thought process that makes him a politician. After his party's landslide victory in the 1959 general elections, BP had the distinction of becoming the first elected Prime Minister. In the 1960s the democratic system ended through extra-systemic means, but BP's image as a symbol of democracy grew until his death in 1982. B. in the Indian nationalist movement. P. ’s involvement and its influence on his political thought process made him a close friend of India.

The Foundation is financed mainly through revenue generated from the Trust Fund established by grants provided by the Government of Nepal and the Government of India. The Foundation also accepts unconditional grants from other agencies, both public and private.
