Laying of foundation stone for the construction of School Building of Shree Janata Secondary School at Surunga Municipality, Saptari District, Nepal

      Foundation stone for the construction of School Building of Shree Janata Secondary School at Surunga Municipality, Saptari was laid today jointly by Mr. Teju Lal Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of Youth and Sports of Nepal, Ms. Gita Chaudhary, Mayor, Surunga Municipality, Saptari and Ms. Garima Nautiyal, Second Secretary, Embassy of India, Kathmandu. Political representatives, government officials, social workers and teachers of the school, students and their parents were also present on this occasion. 
    
2.     School Building of Shree Janata Secondary School  is being built with Government of India’s financial assistance at the project cost of NRs.27.60 million under ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’. 

3.     The Government of India’s grant under ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ is being utilized for the construction of a triple storied school building and other allied facilities. The project is being taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and is being implemented through Surunga Municipality, Saptari.

4.        Shree Janata Secondary School  was established in the year 1951. The school runs classes from Nursery to 12th standard. The school is having a strength of around 600 students out of which 60% are girls. 

5.    Hon’ble Minister, Mayor, Surunga Municipality, Saptari; Chairperson, School Management and other stakeholders appreciated the developmental support being provided by the Government of India to the people of Nepal. They expressed confidence that the infrastructure being created would help provide better education to the students of Shree Janata Secondary School  in Saptari.  It would also help create an improved environment for learning and contribute to the overall development of the education sector in the region.

6.      Since 2003, Government of India has taken up over 563 HICDPs in Nepal in various sectors and has completed 495 projects. Amongst these, 82 projects are in Madhesh Province including 9 projects in Saptari. In addition to these, Government of India has gifted 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various hospitals, health posts and educational institutions in Nepal. Amongst these, 225 ambulances and 34 school buses have been gifted in Madhesh. Out of these, 24 ambulances and 2 school buses  were gifted in Saptari. 

7.     As close neighbours, India and Nepal are engaged in wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal in growth and development of its people by augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors.
