General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff, Indian Army Conferred Honorary Rank of General of Nepali Army
Chief of Army Staff Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, arrived in Kathmandu yesterday for a five-day official visit to Nepal, on the invitation of General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of Army Staff, Nepali Army. General Upendra Dwivedi was received at the airport by Maj Gen Madhukar Singh Karki on behalf of Gen Ashok Raj Sigdel, COAS, NA, Col V Subramaniam, Defence Attaché and officials of the Indian Embassy.
In a poignant ceremony, today morning, General Upendra Dwivedi laid a wreath and paid homage at Bir Smarak (Martyr’s Memorial) at Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu. He thereafter visited the Nepali Army Headquarters where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour. This was followed by meeting with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, COAS, NA during which both discussed building bilateral defence cooperation. He was also given a comprehensive briefing by DGMO of the Nepali Army. Mrs Sunita Dwivedi, President, AWWA interacted with the ladies of the Nepali Army Wives Association.
Continuing with the unique and singular tradition, the Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM was conferred the title of Honorary General of the Nepali Army by H.E. Mr Ramchandra Poudel, Rt. Hon’ble President of Nepal, on 21 November 2024 in a solemn ceremony. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr Ram Sahaya Yadav, Rt Hon’ble Vice President of Nepal, Mr K P Sharma Oli, Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr Manbir Rai, Rt. Hon’ble Defence Minister of Nepal, Mr Eknarayan Aryal, Chief Secretary, H.E. Mr Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Secretaries of Ministry of Defence & MOFA GoN, COAS, Nepali Army, Chief of Nepal Police, Chief of APF, Chief of NID, Defence Attache’ of India to Nepal, the Indian delegation and other senior officials of both the countries.
